History of the Green Sea Baptist Church
This church, known as Honey Camp Baptist Church until 1924, was founded in 1807. It is the mother church to several Baptist churches in eastern S.C., including Spring Branch (1830), Pleasant View (1875), Mt. Zion (1887), Mt. Olive (1890), Dogwood (1896), Carolina (1902), and Grassy Bay (1905). It was first located a few miles southwest, near Honey Camp Swamp.
Admitted to the Cape Fear (N.C.) Association in 1822, then to the Waccamaw Association in 1876, this congregation worshipped near Honey Camp Swamp until 1869, when J.H. Derham donated this site. The first sanctuary here, a frame building, was replaced by a larger one in 1886. It burned in 1931 and was replaced by the present brick sanctuary, completed in 1932.

Green Sea Baptist Church is on mission to carry out the “GREAT COMMISSION” of Jesus Christ as stated by Him in Matthew 28:19-20. We will shine the light of Jesus Christ to all persons through evangelism, discipleship, ministry, teaching, bible study, fellowship, and worship.
For the purpose of preserving, propagating, and clearly interpreting the principles of our faith, and to the end that this body of believing Christians may be governed in an orderly manner consistent with the accepted doctrines of Southern Baptist Churches. For the purpose of preserving the liberties inherent in each individual member of this church, and in order to set forth the relationship of this church body to other Southern Baptist Church bodies, we do adopt and establish this Constitution (and by-laws).
The final authority for our faith and practice is the infallible and inerrant word of God. Our understanding and interpretation of the scriptures is in agreement with “THE BAPTIST FAITH and MESSAGE”, adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention, June 14, 2000.

Having been led, as we believe by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this Church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort, to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the Church, relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.
We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions to bring up our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world, to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger, to abstain from the sale of and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage, to be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Savior.
We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love, to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech, to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.
We moreover engage that when we move from this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the Spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
